adel, a racket sport that has seen fast global growth is attracting increased attention in Jakarta, not just as a recreational activity, but also as a business opportunity.
“Padel is a social-sporty [sport]. One game involves at least eight people, perfect for networking while staying active,” said Wisnu Prasetyo, club manager at Jakarta’s Racquet Padel Club.
The club, which was only established in 2022, is frequented by players typically aged 18 to 45 and offers weekly group activities and friendly matches rather than targeting a specific demographic.
“The focus is on building a culture and community around the sport,” Wisnu told The Jakarta Post on Friday.
Racquet Paddle Club’s branch in Cilandak, South Jakarta, is operating at near-full capacity every day, while its other branch, located in BSD City, Banten, is 80 percent booked on average.
The sport’s beginner friendly nature has helped fuel its rise. “After one to three coaching sessions, players can join community matches and expand their social circles,” Wisnu added.
Hana, 26, became intrigued while living in London, where young professionals played padel after work.
